normal Layout->Advanced->Custom CSS style

I'm new to CSS and I'm likely making an easy mistake here.
From what I gather this is the proper place to add CSS style elements to add to the layout.

I'm attempting to add additional links/images over and existing image.

My CSS code is this:
.site > #body
{
    <div id="logoContainer">
      <div id="mapWrapper"> <a href="/index.html"> </a>
      </div>
      <div id="socialWrapper">
        <a href="https://instagram.com/ntif_scma?utm_source=ig_profile_share&igshid=1h72v5hogaobd" target="blank"><img src="/assets/icons/instagram.gif" width="45" height="45" alt="Instagram"></a>
        <a href="https://www.facebook.com/NTIFSCMA/" target="blank"> <img src="/assets/icons/facebook.gif"
          width="45" height="45" alt="Facebook"></a>
        <a href="https://twitter.com/NTIF_scma?s=09" target="blank"><img src="/assets/icons/twitter.gif" width="45" height="45" alt="Twitter"></a>      </div>
    </div>
}

When save it, this is what I see in the page source.
My css code is not being inserted where I expect it to appear, that is inside the block that contains the image source.
<style type="text/css">#mainbodyframe { background-color: #dedbc7;  } #column-338037 { color: #333333;  } #column-338038 { color: #333333;  }  #mainmenu { height: 40px; width: 1040px; background-color: #2A3F00; } #row-244866 { background-color: #DEDBC7; } #slideshow { background-color: #2A3F00; } #footer { background-color: #c7b88f; }.site > #body
{
    <div id="logoContainer">
      <div id="mapWrapper"> <a href="/index.html"> </a>
      </div>
      <div id="socialWrapper">
        <a href="https://instagram.com/ntif_scma?utm_source=ig_profile_share&igshid=1h72v5hogaobd" target="blank"><img src="/assets/icons/instagram.gif" width="45" height="45" alt="Instagram"></a>
        <a href="https://www.facebook.com/NTIFSCMA/" target="blank"> <img src="/assets/icons/facebook.gif"
          width="45" height="45" alt="Facebook"></a>
        <a href="https://twitter.com/NTIF_scma?s=09" target="blank"><img src="/assets/icons/twitter.gif" width="45" height="45" alt="Twitter"></a>      </div>
    </div>
}</style>
		<!--placeholder-->

	</head>

	<body class="site">
		<!-- Body -->
		<div id="body" class="body" style="max-width: 1040px; margin: 0 auto;">
		<div id="main-wrapper">
	<img id="bannertop" class="img-default jpg" alt="image" src="/ntif2020/images/kiolezo/NTIFBannerBackgroundTop.jpg" />

Hello,
your CSS code format seems to be wrong.
You are entering HTML code instead than pure CSS code.

The right code should be:
.site > #body
{
YOUR CSS PROPERTIES LIKE
color: red;
font-size: 20px;
AND SO ON
}
